NJISI Online Legal Search Tool:
This online tool was designed to assist state and local agencies and organizations in determining what state laws permit and require as to juvenile information sharing – either in their state or in other states. The search tool will provide an online source of accurate and readily available information that will aid juvenile justice and at-risk youth agencies seeking to implement juvenile information sharing interagency agreements; develop uniform policies in the areas of child welfare, behavioral health and juvenile justice and assist policy makers in reviewing what other states have done legislatively in the areas of information sharing. This tool will allow for a comparison of multiple state statutes using key word searches.

Additionally, NJISI has provided links to federal regulations that impact at-risk youth and juvenile justice information sharing – the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act [FERPA] and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act [HIPAA]. The links below lead to online tools that NJISI has found beneficial when researching what information can be and cannot be shared under these two Acts.

[The Legal Search tool will be updated biannually through the assistance of local law students under the supervision of the NJISI program and legal and privacy subject matter experts.]
